DESIGN is PASSION.

I am passionate about everything I do.
I am a mother, wife, graphic designer, photographer, educator, blogger…….
I recently fell completely in love with Food Photography. Now everything I cook has to undergo serious photoshoots. It is an obsession, I tell you.
I just started blogging. My food blog is taking shape. I aim to visit most eating places around my city, Pretoria South Africa and take tons of photos.
I love event photography as well. I love the challenges it holds.
I like black and white photography or two tone as I feel it evokes alot more emotion.
I love to do documentary photos and portraits.
I love the outdoors but I tend to sit at my computer for long periods of time lately.
I have been married for 24 years to a great husband and have three fantastic children.
I love anything on water, in water and around water. It’s no wonder I love sailing.
I love to cook and I love to eat too. Coming from Portuguese roots, most of the dishes I make have a mediterranean influence.
I am not an extrovert but do enjoy a night out with friends.
Again…I am passionate about everything I do.

  1. Hi Purple Calabash. I love your food blog! You are doing a great job with the pics! I am an ex-restaurant manager so I can appreciate the recipes and great tasting food! I just added a few recipes to some of my holiday favorites on my blog today!

I wanted to ask you, ‘Calabash’? What does that mean? I lived in a small town on the coast of our South Carolina and that was a term used to describe the southern seafood cooking in the area. What does it mean to you? I am confused now : )

I would be happy to share a few of my easy recipes to try out & use in your blog if you want. Possibly adding some ‘global’ flair!

    Good luck!

    • Thanks for your compliment on my food blog The Purple Calabash and I am happy that the pics are appreciated.
I went and read up on this style of cooking….was totally unaware. Learnt something new today. A calabash here is a fruit. The dried out calabash is used as a container for food or water. I named my food blog Purple calabash because the calabash is associated with holding food. The colour purple is associated with the city I live in – Pretoria – when the hundreds of Jacaranda trees are in bloom, the city is covered in a carpet of purple flowers on the streets. A really awesome sight to see.
And my favourite colour is purple too.
Your recipe idea sounds great, I will give it a try in the near future. Will contact you soon.
      Have a great 2012.

  2. Aaah…. So nice to come across someone who is passionate about everything she does.

I believe as you honor your feelings and live your life to the fullest, you indirectly inspire others to look within themselves and take charge of their lives.

Here is wishing you and your family a great 2012. :)
